Sea Kayaking -
Our Equipment
We use Northwest Sea Kayaks. The are
hand-made fiberglass boats. Northwest has their
operation here in Washington state. Our guests travel in doubles and triples. Our
guides are in singles for safety considerations.
The kayaks we
use are very stable, broad beamed and roomy. A person up to 6'
2" should be comfortable. We have used these for years.
Every 2 to 3 years, we circulate the sea kayaks out for sale.(if
you are interested in a used kayak, phone in September) Click
Here for Kayak Details Not because they are broken or beat
up, but because we think our guests deserve vessels that are
in excellent condition, not just good condition.
Our paddles are also fiberglass. They are hand-made by a Canadian
company. The blade is a medium width, which we find accomodates
most paddlers and a medium length. They all have drip rings so
that the water does not fall back onto the paddler.
We also supply a dry bag for each boat and keep extra water
bottles and hats for those guests that forgot theirs.
Our life vests (personal floating devices, or PFD's) are made
by Extra Sport. And like the sea kayaks, we circulate these out
every 2 - 3 years. The sun breaks down the fiber and makes them
less effective. We have all sizes XL adult down to a child size
SM.
Guide Radios. Each of our naturalist kayak guides
carries with them a radio for any safety issues that
could come up or to alert them to Orca Whales that have been
spotted in the area.
